(13) Employee
Retirement Programs
The
Ethan Allen Retirement Savings Plan
The
Ethan Allen Retirement Savings Plan (the "Savings Plan") is
a defined contribution plan, which is offered to
substantially all of our employees who have completed three
consecutive months of service regardless of hours worked.
We may, at our discretion, make a matching contribution to
the 401(k) portion of the Savings Plan on behalf of each
participant. Total 401(k) Company match expense amounted to
$2.6 million in 2012, $2.5 million in 2011, and $2.3
million in 2010. The contribution was made entirely in cash
in 2012, half in cash and half in shares of the
Company’s common stock in 2011, and entirely in
common stock in 2010.
Other
Retirement Plans and Benefits
Ethan
Allen provides additional benefits to selected members of
senior and middle management in the form of previously
entered deferred compensation arrangements and a management
cash bonus and other incentive programs. The total cost of
these benefits was $2.7 million, $1.1 million, and $1.2
million in 2012, 2011 and 2010, respectively.
